Tonight the lights go out. People from across the globe are participating in Earth Hour, a global cooperative program designed to shed awareness on climate change. Major cities from across the world, from Sydney to New York, from Los Angeles to Dubai, have planned to participate. A complete blackout of those major cities would be a dramatic scene. More importantly, the awareness that it is attempting to raise is needed and welcomed.
This is the third year of the Earth Hour (and admittedly the first year I had heard about it), so I did a simple google image search. There were pictures from many of the same cities that are participating this year dramatically darker. But, what stood out to me more than the darkness were the lights that remained glowing. All of a sudden, the small window lights of a major skyscraper became more noticeable for the fact that the light remained.
To extend this light and dark motif to the Christian faith, perhaps in a hurting world, where things appear to become darker and darker, the light that followers of Jesus testify to might become all that more noticeable. How about your light? Are you letting it shine?

It seems obvious that CNN didn’t shut down for thehour. I bet you used up more resources than I did watching you. One wonders if you are more important than theaverage bear????

We participated (I had wanted to last year but forgot). This year a friend sent me an email that she was and hoped I would.
My husband even participated by turning off the router (a great gesture as he had just been bumped off Second Life while he was explaining something to someone).

What an incredible bunch of lemmings. Someone one the Internet tells you to shut off lights–so you blindly follow, ya’ don’t know why, but you shur=t off the lights. Next, they’ll tell to to crap and you’ll drop your bloomers. Then they’ll tell you to get in the showers… What an incredible gaggle of non-thinking things you are. Wake up.

Pretty obvious that the “Earth Hour” was a huge failure. Every picture of every major city revealed that there was little participation. Note in the pic of Big Ben the fact that the clouds in the sky still glow with the same amount of city light… A goofy idea, with predictably bad results!

I turned ON ALL my lights in my house!! Climate change is a bunch of hooey and people are falling for it hook, line and sinker! I live off my land and NO GOVT is going to tell me when or how I can use my resources. We are but mere grains of sand in this world and to think we can affect climate change is just CRAZY! We are living MORE CLEAN NOW THAN EVER! Our factories are shut down and the work has gone overseas! Our cars are more clean now than ever! I don’t normally “waste” energy, but people are going nuts about this climate change crap! This world has been around for more than billions of years and it will be around for billions more. I’ll continue to use my resources as I wish and people need to get a different issue in life. There are so many PEOPLE that need our help and focus! Let’s focus on helping them and stop the foolish “global warming” crap! Less than 15 years ago, the issue then was “another ice age” coming!! When are people going to learn to not be so gullible and look at the underlying agenda of the politicians. MOST of the time it is to pass their own agenda and what will put the most money in their own pockets. Do you see anybody in Washington trying to “conserve”? They drive around in limos & SUV’s and fly around in private jets! Do you see them cutting their salaries or giving up their raises? NO! They’re increasing their salaries and making laws so that the American public can’t stop their agenda! They have no term limits, which they should…they don’t have the same retirement plans we do…they’re paid FOR LIFE after they leave office (how would you like your salary the rest of your life after you leave a job?!!?!!…they don’t have to pay for health insurance and they’ll have their health insurance after leaving office for the rest of their lives for nothing!! They write everything off as an expense and pay for nothing! Everything they spend comes out of their expenses! Do you see Obama trying to conserve? He’s flying planes and choppers every minute he can! He’s eating $100/lb steaks and having parties every week! He’s spending money like there’s no tomorrow! At his rate, THERE WON’T BE A TOMORROW for most of us. The more HE SPENDS, the less WE HAVE! WAKE UP AMERICA! “Climate change” my a$$!!!!!

I had to spend the morning stringing Christmas lights in the yard. The house was lit up in all it’s glory.
Global warming…humbug!
